Improving health in Honeywood

The City of Kwinana, Western Australia, is making it easier for residents to improve their health by installing a series of new outdoor exercise stations in Honeywood Estate, Wandi.

The four exercise stations cater for residents of varying physical and fitness ability with both upper-body and lower-body resistance pieces that aim to improve the strength and condition of users.

Mayor, Carol Adams, said installation of the equipment was made possible thanks to a $20,000 Stronger Communities grant.

Federal member for Brand, Madeline King, said, “The new exercise equipment installed at Honeywood, in Wandi is now one of eight stations located throughout the City of Kwinana, that provide residents with a free, purpose built way to maintain their health and fitness within their local neighbourhood.

“Not only has this equipment been designed to suit the needs of the able bodied person, but a number of the pieces have been designed to be accessible and to also cater to people with disabilities.

“The equipment has been well thought out and located between two local parks, and near to local amenities including shelters and barbecue facilities, to connect the areas and help local residents integrate exercise into their lifestyles,” Mayor Adams said.
