Gender Board appointment

Boroondara City Councillor and National President Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA), Coral Ross, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the newly formed Australian Gender Equality Council (AGEC).

Australia’s first independent, national body dedicated to driving gender equality was launched last month with a member network representing over 500,000 women and girls.

Councillor Ross said, “The AGEC could not be more timely, with the change and momentum of women’s rights and gender equality both in Australia and around the globe.”

AGEC Chair, Victoria Weekes, said, “Through being independent and unbiased, AGEC will provide a free and fair view of the true state of gender equality in Australia.”

AGEC, in partnership with its member network will drive a cultural shift in Australia’s attitudes towards gender equality through national campaigns underpinned by rigorous empirical research.

To mark the launch, AGEC has released its campaign video, titled It’s Time, acknowledging the work and efforts of the suffragettes and the feminist movement of the 1970s.
