Community Hub development

Whitehorse City Council, Victoria, has announced the development of a new Community Hub on the former Nunawading Primary School site will start in coming weeks.

Council recently awarding the building contract to Melbourne-based commercial construction firm Ireland Brown Constructions.

The Springvale Road site was purchased from the state government in mid-2015, with the intention of retaining the land for the continued enjoyment and benefit of the entire community.

Mayor, Andrew Davenport, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Ireland Brown Constructions in transforming the site into a vibrant community space where people of all ages and backgrounds feel welcome and can come together to embrace new opportunities for learning, social interaction and getting active.”

The Hub will be the new home of community groups currently operating out of Silver Grove, Nunawading.

When refurbished, the heritage school building will feature multi-functional classrooms, meeting rooms and function hall, specially-fitted out spaces for dance, art, counselling and lapidary activities, purpose-built Meals on Wheels facility and a single-court sports stadium.

The hub will fully integrate with the adjacent Tunstall Park through extensive landscaping, new pedestrian and cycling paths, and dedicated areas for passive recreation.

Construction is expected to take place from late 2018 to early 2020.
