Planning is now underway for the 2019/20 Carnarvon Gorge, Sapphire Gemfields and Queensland Central Highlands Visitor Guide and Touring Map.
The visitor guide replaces the inaugural edition, launched in 2017, and the map is a new initiative to encourage visitors to explore the region further and stay longer.
The Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) is driving the project, with the support of the Central Highlands Regional Council.
CHDC Tourism Development Officer, Paul Thompson, said, “This initiative is not just about attracting more visitors to the region.
“It’s about enhancing their experience when they are here, thereby extending their stay and indeed their spend – a win-win for all of us.”
The full-gloss, A5 booklet will use stunning imagery and catchy content to promote the 13 major townships, their natural landscapes, community events, and local businesses across all sectors.
“Complementing that will be the Touring Map, which will feature the best drive routes to encourage visitors to explore our region further and stay longer,” Mr Thompson says.
“This road map is a new initiative for us, targeted at our thriving drive market, but it’s already proven successful in other iconic tourist regions.”
The guide will be distributed to Visitor Information Centres across Queensland; travel shows and expos; accommodation, tourist attractions and other businesses across the region and feeder destinations, such as Longreach, Roma and Rockhampton; and conferences and other events locally.
Both will also be available to view and download at centralhighlands.com.au and partnership agencies.
“With the support of local businesses and Council, CHDC printed and distributed 70,000 copies of the inaugural 2017/18 visitor guide and the feedback’s been wonderful,” Mr Thompson said.
“Visitors often call it a ‘must-have’ and a ‘bible’.
“It’s helped them find places to play, eat, and sleep and they love having a comprehensive reference tool that slides easily into a backpack or glovebox and that doesn’t need an
internet connection!”
