Circular Head Council, Tasmania, has called on the local community to support a fodder Drought Appeal for the communities affected by drought in New South Wales (NSW).
The Circular Head Lions Club, in combination with the Circular Head Show Society, is preparing to ship 600 bales of hay and silage for delivery into the central and north of NSW through the Lions club of Dubbo.
The decision comes following the unrelenting drought conditions prevailing in NSW and beyond where communities and farmers are in serious stress.
Mayor, Daryl Quilliam, said from recent discussions Council sought to encourage the local farming community to provide some support to the devastating effects of drought on communities in NSW through the local Lions Club and Show Society activity.
“If local community members and families can assist by providing some fodder from the bounty of our past exceptional spring conditions to assist this initiative, it would be an extraordinary contribution of community generosity.
“I believe the decision to commit community fodder to support a bulk drought fodder run via shipping directly to NSW is reflective of sound empathy of the Circular Head community to help those facing some very challenging circumstances.”
