Staff groomed for leadership

The Shire of East Pilbara, Western Australia, continues to break new ground in the workplace, offering a Cert IV leadership program to enhance the skills and knowledge to its developing and emerging leaders.

Eleven Shire of East Pilbara staff members were selected to participate in the Cert IV Leadership Program provided by TAFE North West.

The course will take place in Newman and be completed in four blocks throughout the year.

Shire President, Lynne Craigie, said, “This course has been designed to develop and enrich leadership skills as well as train and prepare our up-and-coming leaders for future positions of management and authority.

“We are excited to present this unprecedented opportunity to our staff members.

“By doing this we’re not only providing support and encouragement to our staff but creating the opportunity to train and prepare individuals for future leadership roles at the Shire of East Pilbara.

“By providing quality training to our staff, the Shire of East Pilbara is supporting the vision of our Strategic Workforce Plan – to plan and deliver future workforce needs, anticipate change and to manage the workforce for many years to come.”

Newman Youth Centre Co-ordinator Youth Services, Kaitlyn Berry, is participating in the program and is excited by the opportunities presented to her.

“This course will add immense value to my professional career.

“Not only will it help me develop skills to effectively manage teams but also to develop greater levels of self-awareness that are invaluable in both personal and professional settings.

“Investing in the existing workforce of the organisation is a smart strategy to ensure that there is strong leadership for the future and to improve staff retention.

“I believe the benefits of this training will be far-reaching, with both immediate and long-term impacts.”
