A recipe of creativity and imagination has been cooked up at the Mossman Library, Queensland.
The library has a new engaging play space featuring equipment including a kitchen, barbecue, workbench and dolls house.
Douglas Shire Mayor, Julia Leu, who sits on the Queensland State Library Board, said the new space was proving to be very popular, with many children enjoying the new equipment.
“This new safe space will enable children and caregivers to have fun with their creativity and imagination in a welcoming environment.
“We all remember the joys of playing with toys as kids and this new equipment will actually help develop a child’s social skills, stimulate conversation and encourage social inclusion. But most of all, these play spaces will help fuel a love of literacy, learning and
our library.”
The Mossman Library engaging play space was funded through the State Library of Queensland’s “Realising our Potential“ grant.
The Library has recorded strong visitor numbers, with 93,000 visits clocked up in the past 11 months – about 9000 more than the 2017/18 financial year.
This includes 1084 new members that Douglas Libraries welcomed since July 1 last year, taking total membership numbers up to about 6000.
