Burnie City Council, Tasmania, has begun works on the Eastern Promenade elevated boardwalk which completes the Waterfront Master Plan.
The promenade will be extended to the Burnie Port boundary and will include a timber boardwalk to match the architecture of the existing waterfront boardwalk, complete with lookout and interactive photo frame at the eastern end to provide enhanced waterfront access and views consistent with the masterplan objectives.
Mayor, Steve Kons, said, “The existing waterfront boardwalk is highly utilised and the addition of the eastern boardwalk will add to the overall experience, people will now have access to the amazing views from the new lookout that were only achievable in the past by Burnie Port employees!
“Projects such as this add to the range of welcoming and attractive spaces across the municipality that foster a sense of community, belonging and pride.
“We are creating a great place to live, work and play through building stronger communities and promoting a broad range of quality leisure and recreational opportunities. These values are consistent with our community strategic plan Making Burnie 2030 that we are working toward.”
Works began in September and are aimed to be substantially completed by Christmas.
