As the smallest municipality in metropolitan Sydney, the Hunters Hill local government area is home to a tight-knit community, with links that have offered an opportunity to strengthen ties in dealing with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council has been making ‘kindness calls’ to connect with every resident on its database. More than 1200 calls have been made to individuals in the community to let them know they are not alone and assist them in linking to services, where required. Feedback has been
extremely positive.
Neighbouring City of Ryde has joined Hunters Hill Council in partnering with Harris Farm Markets to deliver 100 hampers every weekday to help those most in need during the current crisis.
The free hampers are part of Harris Farm Markets’ 100 Box Program and include fresh produce and vital food items to be distributed to vulnerable communities throughout Hunters Hill and Ryde.
Hunters Hill Mayor, Mark Bennett, said, “The impact of the COVID-19 outbreak has been significant and far-reaching throughout our community, and the delivery of these hampers will help those experiencing hardship during this challenging time.”
City of Ryde Mayor, Jerome Laxale, said, “Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been extremely heartening to see businesses and residents in the Ryde and Hunters Hill communities come together to help those who need assistance.
“In thanking Harris Farm Markets I would also like to thank Hunters Hill Council for partnering with the City of Ryde to ensure the hampers reach those who need them the most.”
Hunters Hill Council has developed free, online programs to promote health and well-being and skills development, as well as encouraging business networking and advice.
A series of family yoga and meditation sessions has been extended due to popular demand, while a series of woodworking skills classes and workshops filled all places ahead of commencement.
The business connection program is also being well received and more online programs covering fitness, music gardening, art and more are planned.
