Shire of Exmouth, Western Australia, has partnered with the Minderoo Foundation and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to establish the Ningaloo Centre as a more sustainable facility with annual savings in excess of $180,000 per annum.
The current 25kW solar photovoltaic system installed at the Ningaloo Centre will be upgraded to a 300kW solar photovoltaic system.
By using the Grid Connect Solar PV GMS (Feed-in Management), the facility will make a major contribution towards the sustainable development efforts in a remote area and will be able to monetise the excess energy to reduce future expenditures at the same time.
Shire President, Matthew Niikkula, elaborating on the significance of sustainable power generation, said, “We’re not ready to go completely off-grid, but the Ningaloo Centre, including the Shire offices, will soon be run more sustainable than ever.
“This approach has always been a strong focus for our community and offers a fantastic return on investment at the same time.
“The planned extensions will include a battery energy storage system (BESS), decrease ongoing annual expenditures and lower our ecological footprint significantly.”
