Councillors and staff from Port Augusta City Council, South Australia, recently joined with contractors and community members at the Eastside Foreshore to celebrate completion of the City’s ‘Revitalisation Project’ and installation of new Heritage Signs.
With $100,770 from the state’s Regional Growth Fund, one of only ten projects across South Australia to receive funding, Council provided infrastructure upgrades around the Eastside foreshore and central business district to improve visits to the area for locals and visitors.
Council Chief Executive Officer, John Banks, said, “The new landscaping, signage and amenity upgrades have added some new vibrancy to the area.
“The Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication project design has upgraded pedestrian access towards the foreshore area, which now has new shelters and seating installed for the community to enjoy.”
Interpretive history signs were installed around the Port Augusta central business district and foreshore areas, which are linked to a 4.5 km Heritage Walk.
Mayor, Brett Benbow, said, “It is great to see some of the T-Jetty timbers repurposed in landscaping and signage to acknowledge the historic infrastructure.
“It has been terrific to see locals and tourists down at the foreshore having picnics and barbeques and enjoying time by the water.
“It will become a great social space once the bridge project is complete.”
