Nineteen University of the Sunshine Coast’s (UniSC) Moreton Bay campus undergraduate students are set to start their studies with financial support from City of Moreton Bay’s Scholarship Program.
As a growing City, it is a priority to work closely with UniSC to support the future leaders of our community. The scholarships and bursaries are helping people who might not have had the chance otherwise to study and gain skills in their chosen field.
In the most recent graduating cohort supported by City of Moreton Bay’s Scholarship Program, all eight scholarship and all seven bursary recipients successfully graduated. Notably, one student was awarded a University Medal for Academic Excellence, and seven others received Academic Excellence Commendations.
Mayor Peter Flannery said Council’s Scholarship and Bursaries program gave students the opportunity to successfully pursue their higher education dreams at the world-class UniSC.
“I am incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of this graduating class from our scholarship and bursary program. By providing financial support, we have empowered these talented individuals to focus on their studies and reach their full potential,” Mayor Flannery said.
“If our support can help talented local students focus more on their study commitments, and less of their time worrying about finances, then that is a true investment in our City of Moreton Bay community.
“A huge congratulations to this year’s very deserving cohort of scholarship and bursary recipients.
“We know there is a strong demand for local study opportunities and have been thrilled to watch UniSC’s growth. The significant Stage Two expansion last year has nearly doubled the campus size and subsequent educational landscape in City of Moreton Bay.
“Council has been proud to assist 91 students from Moreton Bay in their academic journeys through our partnership with UniSC, and we are proud that all students who received our scholarship have graduated.
“Of these students, 28 per cent are trailblazers in their families, becoming the first to pursue higher education.
“It’s a valuable investment in the future leaders of Moreton Bay, ensuring that today’s students become tomorrow’s change-makers.
UniSC Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, congratulated the recipients.
“I’m delighted to welcome this year’s cohort of talented students to UniSC Moreton Bay and congratulate those who have received a City of Moreton Bay scholarship or bursary.
“These scholarships and bursaries generously support students to pursue their study aspirations closer to home at our modern campus at Petrie.
“A skilled workforce is vital to the sustainable growth of Moreton Bay. We are proud to be working closely with City of Moreton Bay to ensure residents have access to a quality university education that will empower them to contribute to and benefit from Moreton Bay’s growth and prosperity.”
The annual City of Moreton Bay program offers seven scholarships valued at $8,000 per year throughout the duration of the degree at UniSC, as well as up to 16 Study Support Bursaries valued at $2,000 each, available to local students of any age pursuing an undergraduate degree.
