CivicView for the new millennium

The City of Caloundra, one of Australia’s fastest growing centres, after an exhaustive evaluation of available Local Government software packages, has chosen the CivicView product from Insight Informatics. With the Year 2000 approaching, Caloundra saw the need for a modern, sophisticated system to overcome the problems facing the majority of Australian Councils today.

All major available packages were considered with a view to solving not only the Year 2000 problem but also providing fast, efficient service delivery with integrated GIS and financial systems. CivicView is a cooperative project between technology company Insight Informatics and the Kempsey Shire Council on the mid north coast of New South Wales.

Kempsey Shire Council has already established itself in the implementation and structure of mapping data and the CivicView partnership provides a unique blend of the most current technology with proven industry experience.

“We did not have a legacy of existing text based or host based sites to support so we were able to undertake a Windows development taking full advantage of all that the environment has to offer without compromise,” said Insight General Manager, Peter Hodgkin.

“The ease of manipulation of high volumes of data combined with conformity to standards such as ODBC for ease of financial reporting through standard financial modelling tools available on the market, sees CivicView as one of the most advanced Windows products available today.”

The development of the CivicView package evolves from the growing belief, shared by Council and Insight, that the future of Geographic Information Systems within the Local Government environment lies in providing a graphic representation of the broad spectrum of data held within an organisation.

Integration is the key to the success of CivicView. In the short space of time since its release in 1998, CivicView has been taken on by a number of other Local Government authorities including Yarrowlumla Shire, Mid Coast Water, Young Shire and Cobar Shire.
