Road safety grants for Councils

IPWEA/RTA Local Government Road Safety Project Grants are once again available for New South Wales Council road safety activities. Grants of around $5000 are available for projects with a planning, behavioural or educational focus.

All Councils are encouraged to submit grant applications. Joint submissions from a number of Councils are also welcome and may be eligible for larger grants.

This year, the closing date for submissions is Monday 21 May.

This is the seventh round of grants to be offered. Councils have responded enthusiastically to the scheme with some 220 projects, involving more than half the Councils in New South Wales now completed. Projects have addressed road safety planning, and, behavioural issues, including bicycle safety, speeding, drink driving, occupant restraints, fatigue, pedestrian safety and the development of safe driving policies.

Funds are provided by the Motor Accidents Authority and administered by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia as part of the NSW Local Government Road Safety Program.‘Call for Submissions’ papers, including grant application guidelines and information about funding priorities, have been sent to all NSW Councils.
