One of south east Queensland’s most picturesque foreshore areas, Margate Beach, is undergoing a $5 million facelift to create another quality attraction on the Redcliffe peninsula.
Redcliffe City Council spokesperson for Margate Beach, Councillor Doug Smith said a 3.5 metre wide timber boardwalk would be a key component of the extensive streetscaping and landscaping work.
“Once completed, the revamped Margate Beach will be a vibrant coastal playground to rival its popular neighbour, Suttons Beach,” he said. “It is a one kilometre esplanade, complete with public art, barbecues, viewing shelters and street furniture, will be a place for people to explore and enjoy.
“After much planning and consultation, Council is now in a position to deliver a new look Margate Beach early in the New Year. This project has certainly captured the imagination of Redcliffe residents and many have participated in the extensive public consultation process.
”
The redevelopment is the largest capital works project to be undertaken by the Council this year. It has been jointly funded by Council and the State Government.
“The project has received a dollar for dollar subsidy via the State Government’s Regional Centres Program and this has allowed Council to complete the work in one go,” said Councillor Smith. “This seaside showpiece will help cement Redcliffe’s growing reputation as the recreation destination of south east Queensland.”
