Wooing the developers

Victorian property developers are being wooed and won over by the opportunities abundant in Cardinia. In August, Council invited several leading developers to a presentation in Melbourne where the benefits the Urban Growth Corridor region between Beaconsfield and Pakenham were expounded.

Participants heard how Cardinia Shire Council’s proactive and innovative approach to infrastructure provision has paved the way for high quality residential developments, that are currently enjoying a strong market acceptance. The biggest display village in South East Melbourne is currently under construction at Pakenham. CEO, Don Welsh said that Cardinia’s urban growth corridor has been growing at 12% per annum.

“We currently have 17,000 people in the corridor, with the potential to grow to 80,000, and the capacity to supply 23,000 lots to cater to a variety of lifestyles,” he said.“Cardinia’s high labour force participation rate and plentiful supply of skilled trades, is of particular interest to developers, who can be assured of a ready supply of local labour and sub contractor resources.”

Following the presentation, the guests had the opportunity for informal networking with several key staff from Council.

“The feedback received and level of interest demonstrated was most gratifying,” Don Welsh said.. “This presentation was the first in a series of industry specific sessions aimed at showcasing what Cardinia has to offer.

“Situated on the urban fringe, Cardinia has the best of both worlds; a relaxed rural lifestyle within easy reach of all facilities, a vibrant local economy with strong employment growth and excellent educational and recreational facilities.”
