Dandenong goes online

Residents of the City of Greater Dandenong in Melbourne’s south east can now access safety information via the Council’s web site.

“If residents need to find anything out about safety, either in the home or their neighbourhood, there is information available for them,” said Council’s Community Safety Coordinator, Leanne Malcolm.

At the site, residents can learn about programs such as Eyes on the Street, Secure Seniors, Safe Shop and the Safe Schools Award program. One of the programs highlighted is Graffiti Prevention, which includes a graffiti hotline and before and after photos of areas that have been defaced then cleaned up. The site’s key message is that Council will work with residents to help minimise the effects of graffiti and promote pride in the community.

The web site is simple to navigate and there’s plenty of information to peruse without web users being inundated with unnecessary data. Visitors to Safety Matters can also receive tips about improving safety in the home, street and business.

“Our research tells us that feeling safe and being safe is one of the most important priorities for residents,” Leanne said. “The Safety Matters portal is one way they can find out about Council safety initiatives in their local area – and they don’t even have to leave home to do it!”

For further information, telephone Leanne Malcolm on (03) 9239 5229.
