Queensland Councils online

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) believes that its Local Government On-Line project will transform the way many Queensland Councils operate. It will give Councils the opportunity to access extensive information databases and enable them to provide a range of services to their communities via the Internet. The project builds on work carried out over the last 12 months under the Federal Government’s Networking the Nation project.

“Over the past few years Councils have embraced the easy access, affordability, and immediacy of Internet services,” said LGAQ President, Councillor Noel Playford. “Councils can now access satellite images for planning schemes, access the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data for their area, purchase online, participate in forums regardless of geographic isolation and even provide online training services for Councillors and staff.

“Not only will Local Government On-Line assist Councils in their daily operations but it will provide a number of services for ratepayers and community members. Councils can use the online services to support residents and community groups by enabling email services, community portals for groups to create web sites, information and data collection services, and the ease of B-Pay for rate payments.

“These online services will become an integral part of how Councils do business, communicate and seek information.”
