Young manager leading the way*

Each year, Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) Queensland presents the Young Manager Award for Leadership and Management Excellence.

This award recognises leadership and management excellence by a Queensland Local Government employee who has demonstrated outstanding commitment in the sector, and whose performance is worthy of special recognition.

Applicants are judged against the following selection criteria:

  • visionary leadership
  • innovation
  • best practice
  • superior interpersonal
    skills
  • contribution to the
    community and region
  • professional development
  • effective use of systems
    and resources.

The winner receives funding to the value of $2,000 for a personal and professional development activity of their choice.

In 2009, we received a record number of nominations, which shows that there are many innovative and skilled young leaders in Local Government.

Many applicants showed exceptional leadership skills and used these to positively impact their community and improve processes and systems within council.

Our winner’s nomination was supported with references from both the CEO and Mayor.

On behalf of the LGMA Board, we would like to congratulate this year’s Young Manager of the Year for Leadership and Management Excellence – Leanne Rogers, Director Corporate Services at Flinders Shire Council.

Leanne’s role involves the executive management of all corporate, accounting, information technology, records management, community service and administration functions of Council.

She leads a dedicated team and is actively involved in looking to improve all areas of Council.

Leanne is regularly involved in management think tank meetings and has taken on the Acting CEO role on several occasions.

Leanne is a young person who has shown great initiative and commitment to Local Government in Queensland and we know that she is in for a long and successful Local Government career.

*Nicole Walker is LGMA Queensland’s Manager Member Services.
