Mackay Regional Council was created on 15 March 2008 as part of the Queensland Government’s Local Government Reform Process.

Comprising the former Sarina Shire, Mirani Shire and Mackay City Council, the local authority now covers a geographic area of 7,261 square kilometres and caters for a population of approximately 110,000 residents.

Mackay Regional Council is focused on sustainable economic growth and providing a prosperous, vibrant region for its residents and visitors.
