Sustainability in Public Works Conference to highlight innovative solutions*

The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) will hold its Sustainability in Public Works 2014 conference in Tweed Heads/Coolangatta on 27 to 29 July 2014.

The conference will showcase practical innovations that help make local communities and infrastructure more sustainable and more resilient to climate change and climate extremes, including the latest exciting developments in more energy efficient street lighting.

This is the ideal opportunity for you to showcase your project, approach, tool or other innovation by presenting a paper to the conference on topics from any of the conference’s three sub-themes:

  • sustainable infrastructure
  • sustainable communities
  • responding to climate change.

Entries are also invited for the 2014 IPWEA Sustainable Solutions in Public Works Awards, which are being held in conjunction with the conference to showcase and celebrate the latest sustainability and climate change innovations and success stories.

The conference will feature two full days of presentations, and an optional half-day field tour, panel discussions and networking. It aims to help busy professionals make sense of current sustainability and climate change developments, and generate ideas, useable knowledge and practical measures that can be applied to make a real difference.

The conference Call for Abstracts is now open. This can also be accessed at www.ipwea.org/Sustain2014, along with abstract and award guidelines, and submission details. For any queries please contact Dr Stephen Lees of IPWEA at stephen.lees@ipwea.org or phone him on 0412 264 187. Abstract submissions close on 16 December, so don’t delay!
