Randwick City Council has purchased a new fleet of emission-reduced garbage trucks to complement the existing waste management services.
The new vehicles purchased for Council’s domestic waste services have cutting edge green technology and produce 80 percent less emissions than the older trucks in the fleet.
“It is really a focus of Randwick Council’s to look for technology that not only delivers quality service to our residents, but that also maximises energy and carbon efficiencies,” Randwick City Mayor Scott Nash said.
The trucks will be used in conjunction with council’s existing services.
“The purchase of these six new vehicles provides the benefit of upgrading our fleet which reduces the cost of ongoing maintenance, helps us to continue timely services to the community, plus dramatically reduces our energy outputs.”
The trucks have been in operation since January this year and the Council hopes to continue to purchase these types of energy friendly models when future upgrades or replacements of the fleet are required.
“It really is a fantastic result all round and just one example of our commitment to energy reduction.”
