The City of Gold Coast is standing in solidarity with Paris, following the terrorist attacks in the European city last week.
Condolence books were launched across the city today, and residents invited to share their support and reflections on the tragic events.
Mayor Tom Tate said the books are an important symbolic gesture.
“These events were an attack on democracy, freedom and the western way of life.
“We must unite as a community, support one another and be resilient – just as millions have done so in Paris
“Directly or indirectly – this tragedy has impacted us all. We mourn with the family and friends who lost loved ones as a result of this terror.
“Now is the time to show our respect and as a united front – share our condolences as a city.”
The condolence books can be signed at the Nerang Administration Centre, and Southport and Evandale Chambers between 8.30am and 5pm for the next week.
That period will be extended if so requested by the community.
Books from across Australia will be presented to the French Consulate.
