Showing the way for all abilities

Benalla Rural City will soon launch a mobility and access map, highlighting facilities and paths accessible to people of all abilities.

Made possible by funding from the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) Good Citizen Program, the map will help people find accessible facilities and safe continuous pathways around the central business district more easily.

It will be developed in partnership with the Council, the Disability Advocacy and Information Service (DAIS).

Benalla Rural City Mayor, Councillor Justin King, said the map is an important initiative for both residents and visitors.

“This is an important milestone in fulfilling the community’s goal to become more accessible, as laid out in our Community Access and Inclusion Plan.

“We are also keen to promote Benalla Rural City as an accessible destination for visitors.”

RACV Wodonga Manager Maria Rosa said, “RACV is proud to be part of north east Victorian communities, and we are pleased to contribute $4000 towards developing the Benalla Mobility and Access map which will benefit the wider community by identifying locations of accessible parking spots, toilets, baby change rooms and tourist
information”.

Following community consultation, the new Benalla Mobility and Access Map will be made available on the Council’s website www.benalla.vic.gov.au, the official tourism site www.enjoybenalla.com.au, and in paper form at the Customer Service Centre, the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre and the Visitor Information Centre.

RACV Good Citizen Program provides funding for projects, organisations or groups that benefit the Victorian community generally and extends the corporate social responsibility activities of the RACV Community Foundation.
