Free online food training

Goondiwindi Regional Council, Queensland, has invited residents and businesses involved in the food sector to take advantage of a new food safety training tool being provided free.

‘I’m Alert’ is an online food safety training program for businesses and community members who handle food, or simply those who want to ensure food safety in their own home.

The program was created by Environmental Health Australia with the aim of creating a consistent and efficient delivery of food safety training.

Council’s subscription to the training platform entitles all residents within the local government area to access the training for free.

The program can be accessed online 24/7. The areas of study reflect the basic food safety principles as outlined in the Food Safety Standards and include temperature control, food receipt, food storage and hygiene of food handlers.

Users can select to undergo all sections or only those that are relevant to their role.

The online program is easy to follow and includes presentations as well as interactive quizzes.

It also has the additional option to view Chinese text and captions.
It can be conducted using any type of internet connection (e.g. dial-up, broadband), although a broadband connection is recommended.
A training acknowledgement form can be printed upon completion and be kept as a part of staff records to demonstrate skills and knowledge requirements.

Users can also print an official certificate upon completion to be displayed within their food business.

Environmental Health Officer, John Duffield, said, “There is high demand for training within the food sector within our region.

“This training will assist food handlers in developing the required skills and knowledge to ensure food is handled in a safe and hygienic manner.

“All food businesses have obligations to sell only safe and suitable food, and the new online program will help those in the Goondiwindi region to meet those obligations.”
