A great place to work

Bayside City Council staff and the community are enjoying their newly renovated and extended offices in Sandringham.

Set in natural parkland, the energy efficient building in Sandringham features open workspaces that encourage a culture of respect, collaboration and transparency.

Council’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in the building’s design, which includes an 115,500-litre tank that collects rainwater for toilet flushing, irrigation and window cleaning. Solar electricity helps power the centre through photovoltaic panels on the roof.

Staff and visitors can monitor Council’s solar panel carbon footprint savings via an energy meter in the centre’s foyer, as well as on Council’s website.

As well as the new working environment, Council employees enjoy a range of conditions that support flexible work arrangements including parental leave and part-time arrangements to help balance work and family life.

Safety is a priority for all workers. Aged and Disability Services, for example, has introduced a range of initiatives for their Community Care employees including access to a physiotherapist who provides individual and group sessions, seminars and health and safety information.

Council encourages an active, friendly workplace. For the more than 40 per cent of staff who live locally, there are showers and change facilities for those who ride or walk to work or take an active break during the day.
